Flying into Cancun International Airport

1. Beaches

The beaches in Cancun were awesome! The weather was hot and sunny, and the water was cool and refreshing. We spent our time rotating between laying in the hammocks, laying out tanning and floating in the ocean. Whichever option you choose, you’re bound to enjoy the beaches in Cancun.

2. Snorkeling

We took a snorkelling excursion out of Quintana Roo, which is about 2 hours outside of Cancun. Our tour company arranged for all the transportation and equipment rental and we had a blast! The water was relatively clear and we got to see some really cool coral and fish up close!

3. Nightlife

Hard Rock Cafe, Cancun

Bars, restaurants, and nightclubs can all be found in the hotel downtown portion of Cancun. A quick cab ride from most hotels, plan to add this into your trip, even if it’s just for a quick drink. There are several large nightclubs that feature large exposed sides, so you can see the entire club from standing on the sidewalk outside. My friend had never been to Senor Frogs so naturally, I took her there from a couple of drinks and some of the best people-watching.

4. Sunrises

The picture above should say it all. Cancun has a great position for sunrises, especially if you’re staying right after the curve. Set your alarm early one morning and catch your own at least once.

5. Sacred Cenote

Another fun excursion you should explore is visiting a Sacred Cenote. Cenotes’ were considered sacred to the Mayan civilization, as they were the only sources of water in the jungle. The water inside is channelled underground similar to a spring, so it’s really cold and since there is no light except near the surface, all the fish are blind! Good thing the fish are tiny, minnow-like fish, as they nibble on your toes when your floating in the water! Definitely check out an excursion here, as it’s something I’ll never forget.

6. Mayan Ruins & Temples

Visiting the Mayan Ruins

Visiting the Mayan Ruins was a no-brainer for me. It’s amazing how they’re still standing after all this time and I loved hearing about their traditions and customs. Thank God I live now, as I would have never survived back then! Day trip options from most hotels are available.

7. All-Inclusive Resorts

I know this may seem odd, but I was really looking forward to the all-inclusive resort itself when we booked this trip. We don’t always book at all-inclusive resorts when we travel so this was a treat and we loved every moment! Not having to worry about paying for food and drinks while you’re there was truly relaxing.

For these reasons and more, you need Cancun to your next long weekend destination!
