Check out this castle tucked away in Millbrook, NY that you can actually stay at!
Nestled in the Hudson Valley of New York, Millbrook features this amazing bed & breakfast called Wing’s Castle. This castle was designed by artists Peter & Toni Ann Wing. The Wing’s had a passion not only for castles but also for antique memorabilia and collectibles.
Tours
The Wing’s Castle provides from Memorial Day to Labor Day every year from Wednesdays-Sundays. After Labor Day if you’re thinking of visiting just keep in mind that tours only run on the weekends and it’s best to contact them prior to be safe. The tours of the castle cost $12 for adults and 8 for children, lasting about 45 minutes-1 hour in length. Walking the grounds without doing the tour or staying over is prohibited.
Castle B&B Options
The Castle itself has 4 separate rooms that are rentable, The Annex Suite, The Dungeon, The Chamber room & The Tower room. Each one is completely unique of it’s counterpart and the pricing fluctuates deepening on the room you choose. Below is a quick recap of each room and the rough pricing to expect:
The Annex Suite ($300/night) – This is a two-level suite that features a queen-size bed, private bathroom, kitchen, fireplace, balcony, and courtyard.
The Dungeon ($200/night) – With its own private entrance this room still has all the usual expectations of a hotel room with your own private bedroom, bathroom, mini-fridge & Wi-Fi, but the added feature of a private tunnel leading to the Annex Suite.
The Chamber Room ($200/night) – features a queen-size bed, private bathroom, mini-fridge, Wi-Fi, and private entrance from the parking lot.
The Tower Room ($200/night) – features a queen-size bed, private bathroom, mini-fridge and Wi-Fi
Note that all rooms also include a continental breakfast in the morning and a complimentary tour of the full castle.
Another great stay over option is The Cottage. Located about 4 miles away, this 3 bedroom cottage is truly storybook picturesque. Sleeping up to five people this cottage features two queen size beds, 1 single bed, a bathroom, living room and kitchen. The cottage sells for either $500/night if you’re sleeping 5 or $200/couple that uses a bedroom. Note that if you don’t rent the cottage out exclusively, then there may be another couple during the same dates as your stay in the cottage. As guests here you will still have a complimentary continental breakfast, as well as access to the Wing’s Castle grounds.
The Henge
Probably my favorite part of the castle grounds is The Henge. It overlooks the Millbrook Vineyards & Winery and is a beautiful spot for tea or the sunset. The henge looks like it’s straight out of Outlander and that the very least will make for some great pictures!
Final Notes
The Wing’s Castle is the perfect location for either a romantic getaway or a weekend away with another couple. The close proximity to the Millbrook Winery and downtown Millbrook provide for several activities while the the grounds themselves are extremely relaxing. The Castle also can host weddings there, though you’ll have to contact them directly for more information on that. The B&B doesn’t do any online or OTA bookings, so calling direct is the only way to make reservations. Visit their website to view the different room options and give them a call (845-677-9085) to reserve!
